History of Shadow Cutting
Long before photography, Silhouette Art was a form of portraiture.
The name Silhouette is from Etienne de Silhouette, an eighteenth century French Minister of Finance to Louis XV. He hand cut out pensions and luxuries thus the term “cut out” or “minimal.“
From its heyday in the 18th century, the practice is waning, in part because there are only a few dozen silhouette artists of varying technical ability in the world.
In Singapore, there are only two professional silhouette artists, so contact us today to avoid disappointment!
Why Shadow Cutting?
Each silhouette is cut out entirely by free hand. The artist simply looks at the profile of the subject and start cutting their exact likeness from black paper. Every silhouette is an original one of a kind art work, signed by the artist.
Because of it’s novelty, it’s often a popular activity not just for children but for adults too! More importantly, it only takes a few minutes wait to own your very own master piece.
